We live in an apartment that doesn’t really afford us a lot of room to maneuver or choice in paint…so our walls are literally a hodgepodge of 4 different colors of white. With gray trim. Ugly carpet. Old baseboard heaters. Basically, we have no say in any of the base stuff, so over the last few years I’ve worked hard to make it look less like an old cookie cutter apartment and more like our home.
For a while, I’d tossed around the idea of rearranging our bedroom, which had not been touched since we moved in and placed the furniture two years ago. It’s a funky space with a ledge running around 1/3 the room at the window level (which is shoulder height since it’s a basement apartment).
I mean, it wasn’t bad. We’d centered the bed under the window so we could get some air flow, and we both used the ledges (probably a little excessively). After 2 years though, we needed a change.
I started getting the feeling that the placement of the bed was starting to make the room look smaller than it was. So I measured, and it turned out that corner to corner on the window wall was the exact same as corner to doorway.
Which is how our room came to look like this 2 weeks ago:
Oh, my bad, I forgot that our bed has to be disassembled to be moved. Also, for the record, mattresses are HEAVY. Also, it should be noted that the Fireman was at work when I did this. And it literally came about because I was on Pinterest and couldn’t stand my bland bedroom for one more second and had to change it. At 430 in the afternoon. By myself. Did I mention mattresses are heavy?
SO much better. Since nothing is up against the window, the entire room looks bigger.
I mean, its been 2 weeks and I’m still giddy about it & wondering why it didn’t happen sooner.
The Fireman thinks there’s so much more room for activities…and if you don’t get that reference, watch the clip below. I relate a lot of things to Step Brothers.
And of course, I had to put another gallery wall up. Because you can never have too many in your house. There’s still a space to the left that needs to be filled & we just haven’t decided what to put up yet.
You’ll see that the table on my side disappeared. It stuck out way too much and actually blocked a bit of the doorway, which worked out perfectly for me. The Fireman bought me that massive crate at our family auction, and I’d been waiting to use it.
Awesome, huh? It’s an old typewriter crate & I’m planning on adding a small shelf so I use the space better. I’m seriously obsessed with it.
Nothing over here changed, except for the addition of the light up peace sign (because. Just because.).
It looks totally different. At least to me.
I finally combined all of our stuff that’s been living on the ledge for the last 2 years, because c’mon. It’s been 4 years, I think that it’s okay if we combine some of our stuff now.
I’ve got some ideas brewing for the white space on the walls…because you know that is not allowed in our house. Poor Fireman. He’ll never be able to get away from my obsession with art.
